is anyone ready for this.. help me!
« on: June 02, 2010, 10:45:27 PM »
one day after about 50 miles of perfect driving the rover randomly bogged down, i couldnt accelerate, and i coasted into a lot. i limped her home at low rpm, replaced my wires, distributor and rotor, found some intake leaks so i replaced the gaskets the timing was WAY wrong so now the timing is right everything is cool. no. now i have a clank in the left side (even side) of the block, i removed fuel injectors to see what cylinder it was.. when i un plugged them NOTHING happened no change in idle nothing.. i check my plugs, 3 of 4 of them looked brand new and one is black.. 5 cyl range rover? took off injectors the stupid o rings and rotted so in all got rid of intake leaks and misfire.. i think but now i have a knocking that just appeared and gotta fix it she idles okay but not great bad injectors? carbon build up? something!? knocking is not loud like something is going to break though block but more like engine had no oil for the past 20 years (but it does and is regularly maintained) for the past 5 years any body help!

hi it sounds to me like your original problem is fuel related not ignition, you say you replaced the rotor because of play?the rotor should turn a little by hand and then spring back,a fuction of the advance mechanism.if you had a hard time changing the rotor you may have pulled the distributer shaft apart and you will have all kinds of timing issues, there is a small plastic piece called a top hat(because of its shape) that holds the shaft together it can brake very easily.you might have to take the distributer out to get all the pieces and advance springs lined back up.if you cant find a top hat all the pieces will stay in place held down by the rotor against the cap if your carefull putting the dist. back in.as i remember the top hat wasn't even listed in the parts manuals you would have to find a parts guy who knows his stuff.i don't know if you even have this problem but i've seen it happen lots of times, hope this helps.
