67' Series IIA Project
« on: August 12, 2008, 09:07:48 PM »
Well its home.  Long day on the road.  So...the truck is in a bit worse shape than I expected.

The Bad:

The frame is done...full of holes and welded on patches.  The lower bulkhead is rotted pretty good.  Foot wells are gone.  There are spots of rust and repair patches on other parts of the bulkhead.  The rear floor has some small holes in it and its pretty beat up.  The front floor is a mess.  All the metal under the drivers seat has rotted out and been replaced with wood.  Upholstery is in bad shape.  It has no keys and no ignition.  You have to touch 2 nails together to get it to start..lol.  The wiring harness/electrical's are a complete mess.  The dash and gauges need work.  The body is not as straight as I thought.

The Good:

It turns over fine.  Its pretty much complete except for some little things.  Glass looks ok.  Came with a spare diesel motor and a couple boxes of usable spare parts.  It has rear jump seats, which I heard were rare?  It rolls freely, you can select each gear, the top is in good shape.  It also came with all the factory manuals and its origin is documented.  Came with the original jack, handle, lug wrench, and crank start tool.  Its a one owner car.  It was last on the road in 01' and ran ok when it was parked.  Could prob be tuned up and driven, but the frame rot is bad enough I wouldn't do it.  It was not a Maine car until 7 years ago when parked.  It was in Mass. its whole life.

I'm still pumped about it though.  Pics to follow.:D

haha yea i found that pretty funny.  Well I didn't actually get it to crank..just turned it over by hand.  So at least I know its free.  It came with about 6 quarts of spare oil so maybe I'll drain whats in it, refill, toss a battery in, maybe clean the carb, a little fresh gas and give it a shot.

Oh and open invite anyone who wants to come check it out, I think Tom is coming over, I would be more than happy to show it off.  And the opinions of you "professionals" wouldn't hurt either.

Jason, that is pretty much what you get with 90% of unrestored Series rigs. I have something like 30 of them that look much the same or worse. Yours is particularily nice as it is all there and all the same vehicle. Can probably be saved with original patina....much prefered to a nice shiney paint job. Clean up the body panels, rebuild, galvanize and paint the bulkhead. New frame.....springs....shocks.....put in a new wiring harness and all new hydraulics / brakes and the reast is just fluff.

I'd be pretty damn stoked to have one like that....er..... another one like that, and so that you appreciate it EVEN more the last one like that  (restoration donor) I sold was for $1800. Now I don't really even sell them other than as donors for customers.
